Halo and greetings to all my good people. October was an exciting month for gaming and for those of you who had been missing any gaming updates lately, I'll bring you all the ups and downs from the world of gaming. Several games were also released this month including 3 triple A titles for grabs. So get controller settings and let's get gaming!
#1 Watchdogs, The Crew and Drive Club DELAYED!
Yes you heard me gamers. Three next gen new IPs had been delayed. The highly anticipated next gen open world game by Ubisoft, Watchdogs had been delayed to spring 2014 thus affecting the PS4 bundle pre-orders. The game was previously scheduled to launch in November for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PC and Wii U. Soon after the announcement, Ubisoft also confirmed that it has delayed the release of its open-world next-gen racer The Crew. Sony too confirmed that Evolution Studios' racer Driveclub also been delayed.
".....it became clear to us that we needed to take the extra time to polish and fine tune each detail so we can deliver a truly memorable and exceptional experience. Our long-term goal is to win the next generation. The tough decisions we are taking today to fully realize the major potential of our new creations have an impact on our short-term performance," according to the statement by Ubisoft regarding Watchdogs.
With the delay news, the pre-orders for Watchdogs bundle with PS4 had been adjusted, depending on retailer. "For those of you who pre-order the Watch Dogs PlayStation 4 bundle—don't worry—you will still be getting your Playstation 4 (without Watch Dogs) based on your current delivery estimate. We are adjusting the orders now and will update you once we know more," Amazon said.
Regarding the delay, Ubisoft shares had nosedive to 25% and according to Bloomberg, shares fell as much as 32 percent, the most since the company debuted on the Paris stock exchange in 1996.
As a result of the two game delays, Ubisoft expects to book an operating loss between €40 million ($54 million) and €70 million ($95 million) for the year ending in March 2014.
Ubisoft made a big big decision here and risky. For me they made a right decision of delaying the games because it will give them ample time to polish and perfected their game. Rushing things is not a good thing. Although their shares had plummeted, it will only affect them slightly as they have another game, ACIV-Blackflag been released in October. I'm pretty sure that ACIV will cover up all the losses.
#2 PS4 costs $1,850 in Brazil!
In the most unlikely news yet, if you live in Brazil and planning to get the next generation consoles you pretty sure need to earn hard extra money. Announcement by Sony in the Brazilian Playstation blog, the PlayStation 4 will cost 3,999 Brazilian Real ($1,850) at launch in the country and games will cost R$179, or around $83. The PS4 will go on sale on November 29 in Brazil, the same day as the console debuts in Europe. The discrepancy is due to import fees and taxes, which make up between 60 and 70 percent of the cost.
Sony has responded to the news saying that the high price is "not good for the PlayStation brand."
Sony's Latin America general manager Mark Stanley stating that "we want to emphasize that it isn't in the interest of Sony Computer Entertainment America to sell PS4 units at this high retail price, as it’s not good for our gamers and it’s not good for the PlayStation brand. There is a lot of confusion and inaccurate information spreading online about Brazil’s import tax policies online and the PlayStation 4 retail price, so we’d like to set the record straight: of the R$3,999 gamers pay, 63 percent of the retail price goes to offset the various taxes that are applied in the process of importation. Some do not consider the IPI on the distributor price and PIS/COFINS on retailers price and much less, include the ICMS and ICMS-ST taxes. You can see a true breakdown of the price model at Valor Economico. The other 15.5 percent goes to retailer margin and 21.5 percent to PS4 Transfer Price (equivalent to USD$390)."
"We will continue to talk with the relevant government agencies to help us reduce the heavy tax burden that gamers, retailers and Sony Computer Entertainment America are paying." I think Sony had to work really hard to settle this matter ASAP.
#3 Wii production ends
People who loves Nintendo, I've got story for you. Nintendo no longer manufacturing console after more than 100 million sales worldwide to date.Wii production in Japan has come to an end, according to an update on Nintendo's Japanese website. A statement posted to the page and translated by Kotaku reads "production ended."
The Wii was released in 2006 and has sold over 100 million units worldwide to date, millions more than the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The system introduced motion-controls as a primary means of play, something competitors Sony and Microsoft would adopt later on. Nintendo has shifted more than 872 million pieces of software for the Wii. The company stopped making games for the console last year. The most popular non-bundled Wii game is Mario Kart Wii at 34.26 million copies sold.
Its successor the Wii U launched last year and has struggled thus far, selling 3.61 million units to date, below Nintendo's internal expectations. Nintendo implemented a price cut for the console last month, dropping the MSRP for the 32GB model to $300. Well no surprise here as people kind of expect this decision since the launch of Wii U and the announcement of PS4 and Xbox One. A good move from Nintendo? The decision is yours.
#4 Steam Machine prototype specs reveals
Half-Life company reveals some units will ship with i7-4770 CPU, Nvidia Titan GPU, 16GB DDR3 RAM, and 1TB hard drive. In a statement on the Steam Community website, Valve described its prototype as "something special." It is built out of off-the-shelf PC parts and is fully upgradable, meaning users can swap out the GPU, hard drive, CPU, or the motherboard if they want to.
"To be clear, this design is not meant to serve the needs of all of the tens of millions of Steam users," Valve said about its prototype. "It may, however, be the kind of machine that a significant percentage of Steam users would actually want to purchase--those who want plenty of performance in a high-end living room package. Many others would opt for machines that have been more carefully designed to cost less, or to be tiny, or super quiet, and there will be Steam Machines that fit those descriptions.
Valve said it is not ready to share a picture of its prototype because "they're not finished enough." However, the company said it will post images of the device before units ship to testers this year. Valve also expects users to redesign the machine from a technical perspective and from an industrial design angle, changing the enclosure in new ways.
"So high-powered SteamOS living room machines are nice, and fun to play with, and will make many Steam customers happy. But there are a lot of other Steam customers who already have perfectly great gaming hardware at home in the form of a powerful PC," Valve said.
"The prototype we're talking about here is not meant to replace that. Many of those users would like to have a way to bridge the gap into the living room without giving up their existing hardware and without spending lots of money," Valve added. "We think that's a great goal, and we're working on ways to use our in-home streaming technology to accomplish it--we'll talk more about that in the future."
